Late Roman sword / Spatha with scabbard, 2nd / 3rd century AD

This Roman spatha is not a one-to-one replica of a historical model, but a reconstruction based on original finds around the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

This Roman longsword has a broad, double-edged blade made of EN45 spring steel with two grooves on each side and an approx. 5 cm long skew below the guard. The cutting edges of the blade are unsharpened.

Screwed to the end of the handle is the continuous blade tang. The handle, with large pommel is made of wood, decorated with brass applications. The handle is decorated with beautiful carvings. The guard has a protective brass plate on the blade side.

The handle section is decorated with carvings and the quillons has a brass protective plate on the blade side.
