Viking drum brooch or vestment buckle Gotland in bronze or silver
This beautifully crafted drum brooch was made after an original from Gotland, which dates from the 8th - 9th century. It was decorated in the so-called "animal style III after Salin", which represents 3 band animals. The original was worked with a foot plate, which was left out with our piece. Therefore it is lighter and more affordable.
On the backside a stable needle was attached, which also carries thicker fabrics.
Canned fibulae were part of the gothic women's garb especially in the viking period from the 8th to the 11th century. They found their use as a garment clasp to close coats and the like.
