Medieval half boots laced black dyed
Shoes of this type were worn across all estates, throughout the late Middle Ages and even earlier.
Made by the nail-through method. Almost indistinguishable from a turn-stitched shoe, but much more stable in construction. The vegetable tanned upper leather is very supple and extremely stable.
Finds of these medieval shoes are in many museums. Similar shoe finds also exist from earlier times. Among other things, this type of shoe is also found in the work "Shoes and Patterns" by Francis Grew and Margarethe de Neergaard and is dated there to 1100-1450.

Mostly shoes in this price segment are made with leather, which was treated with acrylic-based paint. Since acrylic paint is an opaque color, the dye is virtually a very thin layer of plastic paint on the leather. This looks very even, but has very little to do with the dyeing methods used in the Middle Ages or natural, original leather grain of the upper leather.
In the Middle Ages, vegetable dyeing slurry was used to dye the leather.
The principle of these dyeing processes is, as with the oil paint we use, that the color is absorbed and not applied opaquely as with acrylic. For this reason, our dyeing - although produced with color pigments of synthetic origin - is much more like a "medieval dyeing" than modern prepared leather from the tannery.
Our dyeing method gives the shoe an character in antique look, because the pores of the natural material leather are different and the color is absorbed accordingly also differently in some places.
