Late medieval strappy shoes. Shoes of this type have been worn across all classes, in the complete late middle ages. Almost indistinguishable from a turn-sewed shoe, but much more stable in construction.
The shoes are made of natural tanned leather. It is very supple but extremely rugged.
Findings of these shoes are in many museums. Similar findings shoes are also available in high-medieval era, but they have been tied with laces back then. As with the 14th-15th century buckles have been added to close the straps. You have findings in Konstanz, London, Schleswig,... a truely classic of late medieval times.
One should think, these type of shoes have only been worn by women, but they have been worn by men a lot too. It is likely that this shoetype became fashionable due to the form-fitting fashion in late medieval era. High shoes shanks would have disturbed the medieval garb.

We color the shoes with oil dye on an alcohol base which is a very good solution for a medieval look. Most offered shoes in this price category are painted with colors on acryl base which is a covering color. But medieval coloring meant that the color soaks into the leather and you still see the natural surface texture afterwards. Even if our color has synthetic paint pigments, it exactly does that. It soaks into the leather and gives you this beautiful look as shown in the pictures. Every pair of shoes is unique due to the fact that the pores in the leather soak differently. The name Korduan red comes from medieval times. Cordoba was the central for red leather in the middle ages for a long time and most of the red leathers came from there.
