Clay tobacco pipe - big claw
The clay pipe developed at the beginning of the 17th century with the advent of tobacco, which found its way to England thanks to Columbus. It made its way via England to the Netherlands, from there to Aachen and Cologne, and finally found its way to the Westerwald with the troops of the Thirty Years' War. This is where one of the most important centres of the craft of clay tobacco pipes originated.
Our clay pipes also come from the Westerwald, where they are made out of long-standing tradition and passion.
The clay is put into the mould, where it is soaked and beaten out. It then has to rest and infuse until it is punched, dried for a day and finally baked overnight in the 1000 degree kiln.
