Reversible medieval shoes laced vegetable tanned cowhide red
In this type of medieval shoes, attention was paid to accuracy in the reproduction of medieval footwear.
This late medieval half-boot was turn-stitched as was customary in the Middle Ages. This means that the sole was sewn to the upper leather of the shoe from the left using a sturdy thread, and then turned to the right.
The seams in the upper leather were implemented as butt seams with flesh-edge stitches, so that no seams are visible to the outside.
The leather has been vegetable tanned. This shoe is rounded off by a sewn-in welt in the heel area. Here the sole can be doubled or patched by means of a sewn-on piece of leather, which ensures longer durability.
Finds of these shoes are in many museums. There are similar shoe finds also already in earlier times. Among other things, this type of shoe is also found in the work "Shoes and Patterns" by Francis Grew and Margarethe de Neergaard and is there dated to 1100-1450.

About the size:
The shoes are a good fit if you choose your street shoe size. If you fluctuate between two sizes, we recommend to choose the smaller size, because the leather still expands in use.
About the dyeing:
The offered shoe is dyed by hand with alcohol-based oil dye and then sealed.
Most often, shoes in this price segment are made with leather treated with acrylic-based paint. Since acrylic paint is an opaque paint, the dyeing process virtually applies a paper-thin layer of plastic paint to the leather. This looks very even, has very little to do with the dyeing methods used in the Middle Ages or natural, original leather grain of the upper leather.
Our dyeing method gives the shoe a character in antique look, because the pores of the natural material leather are different and the color is absorbed accordingly also differently in some places. Thus, each shoe is unique.
