Pappenheim basket rapier / 16th century

In the 16th century, the rapier was a very popular weapon among duelists. To a large extent, however, the rapier was also used for civilian purposes.

Because of its typical design of the hilt at the parry/handle, it is also called "Pappenheimer". This name was given to the rapier by Gottfried Heinrich, the imperial commander of the 30-year war.

This basket rapier is made of a hardened, blunt carbon steel blade. The blade tapers and accordingly has a pointed blade end.

The magnificent handle basket is made of steel and lined with velvet. The handle is wrapped with a piece of wire.
The sword scabbard is made of leather wrapped wood and features a metal place and mouth plate.
