One-handed sword Oakeshott XIV - Battle ready!
This beautiful replica was made of spring steel (approx. 48 - 50 HRC) and was forged through to the pommel. The steel quillon is slightly bent. The beautiful grip is made of wood, which is wrapped in leather. In the pommel is the inscription "Sunt hic etiam sua praecuna laudi" which translates as hot as "Even here fame is not without reward".
The scabbard with wooden core was covered with leather. In addition, a belt including buckle was attached, which is wrapped around the scabbard.
It was modelled on an original, which is very well preserved. The original is from the 14th century, which is classified as type XIV according to Oakeshott typology. Today it is exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum (Met), Gallery 373, in New York.
