Leather horn holder for drinking horn brown, embossed dragon, Jelling style, various sizes
Jelling is a town in Denmark, located in the Jutland region. Important archaeological finds have been discovered here, including two large burial mounds of kings and the Jelling stones. The large stone has an inscription that reads something like, "King Harald had this stone erected in memory of Gorm, his father, and Thyra, his mother. Harald, to whom all Denmark and Norway submitted and who made the Danes Christians." The stone, also known as Denmark's "baptismal stone," records the arrival of Christianity in Denmark by Harald Blauzahn.
This horn holder is made of thick, vegetable-tanned buffalo leather (grain leather). It has polished surfaces and edges and has been dyed with a light color finish to give it a used appearance. The circumference of the holder can be adjusted to the desired horn by adjusting the lacing on the back. This piece features an embossed Jelling-style dragon motif from a silver cup made by the 10th century Danish King Gorm.
ONLY the holder is sold here - the other items are sold separately.
