Drinking horn with brass details and stand
This drinking horn is handmade from buffalo horn. It has been polished on the outside for a smooth, shiny surface. In addition, the drinking horn is decorated with brass on the rim and the tip. It comes complete with a black lacquered metal stand with non-slip rubber feet. The horn is not sealed food safe. However, this lacquering/sealing can be done later. Only then it is suitable for direct contact with food.
The drinking horn, usually made of cow or goat horn, was a popular drinking vessel in many cultures and through many eras. It remained in use until the early modern period, especially in the Germanic-influenced areas of Europe. It was especially popular in Scandinavia during the early Middle Ages. The drinking horn is mentioned in the Prose-Edda as well as in the Song-Edda.
