Birka cap with herringbone pattern, brown
Headgear was common in the Middle Ages for both men and women, although this cap was worn exclusively by men. It was available in both plain and more elaborate styles with fur trim, etc.
There is evidence of the cut of this cap from Haithabu and from Birka.
This headgear is made of sturdy cotton fabric with a sewn-in herringbone pattern, whereas the stepped band is made of canvas. It is also lined with light cotton fabric on the inside.
